James E. Davis

Vice President for Legal Affairs


Jim Davis serves as the Vice President for Legal Affairs, where he performs the duties of chief legal officer, general counsel, and chief ethics officer to The University of Texas at Austin.

Prior to joining the university, Davis directed the litigation for the State of Texas as the Deputy Attorney General for Civil Litigation.  Davis was previously a partner in the Austin office of Locke Lord and a Briefing Attorney at the Supreme Court of Texas in the chambers of Justice Alberto Gonzales.

Davis is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and Harvard Law School.  Prior to attending college, Jim served in the United States Navy as a cryptologist stationed in Scotland.
