Steve Rosen

Steve Rosen serves as the Senior Associate Vice President for Legal Affairs, Mentorship & Special Projects. In this role, he assists the Vice President in providing targeted mentorship and training to team members to ensure continuity of excellence in delivery of legal services. He also coordinates with the Vice President on special projects and supports the Vice President’s goals and initiatives. 

As a practitioner, Steve focuses primarily on complex construction, real estate, business, and intellectual property contract negotiations and dispute resolutions, public-private partnerships (PPPs),  research compliance, regulatory compliance, privacy law, and open records. 

Before joining the University in 2014, Steve served as Senior University Counsel at Stanford University.  Prior to that time, he served as University Counsel at both The University of Texas System and the University of California.  Before focusing on higher education practice, Steve was in private practice specializing in intellectual property transactions at Gunderson Dettmer and in litigation matters at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen in the San Francisco Bay Area and Austin, Texas.

Steve earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was also senior note and comment editor at the California Law Review.  Following law school, he served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Gary L. Taylor of the United States District Court (Central District of California).
